No heat.

Recently purchased an 87 Formula with only 55k miles. Runs good. I just have a few issues to deal with. One issue is no heat. Blower works fine and the controls seem to be moving properly. I suspect the original radiator may have had an age-related leak and a PO fixed it with some stop-leak. The stop-leak probably clogged up the heater core. Any other ideas out there? I am thinking about draining, flushing and re-filling the coolant system (which hopefully will clear the heater core but may cause the leak to reappear.) Is there anything else I need to check first???

thanks, Jimmy

Not sure about the 3rd gens, but the 4th gen heater cores are known for plugging up. We pull the hoses off at the pump end and flush the core with a garden hose.

Are the heater hoses hot when the engine is hot?

Also 3rd gens are known for vacuum leaks at the controls and blend doors sticking or broken. On my 87 GTA I pulled it all apart due to not having heat and Found nothing wrong so I put it back together and everything worked like it was supposed to so it was a vacuum leak
